A plain English explanation of this ACT planning and property term.
Secondary residence means a second dwelling on a block which is subordinate to the principal dwelling on the block.
A secondary residence is a second, smaller dwelling associated with the principal home, commonly called a granny flat. Under the current Residential Zones Policy, no more than one secondary residence is permitted on a block and its dwelling size must not exceed 90 m². It remains on the same block and does not automatically create a separately saleable title.
