Protected tree means— (a) each of the following trees located on land in built-up urban areas: (i) a registered tree; (ii) a regulated tree; (iii) a tree on public unleased land (a public tree); and (b) a registered tree or a remnant tree located on land in— (i) a future urban area; or (ii) an area that is the subject of a subdivision design application.
A protected tree is a tree that is legally protected under ACT tree laws. It can include different types of trees, such as registered trees, regulated trees, public trees on unleased land, and certain trees in future urban or subdivision areas. Because these trees are protected, you may need approval before pruning, damaging, or removing them. Protection requirements may also include conditions to protect the tree or replace lost tree canopy.
