Detached house means a building comprising a single dwelling which is not attached to any other dwelling and where the dwelling has within its curtilage separate private access to the dwelling and open space at ground level for the exclusive use of the occupants of the dwelling. It may include a free-standing dwelling in a multi- unit development, such as in a townhouse development.Note: Detached house is a type of single dwelling housing but may also be a type of multi-unit housing. A detached house is one self-contained dwelling that is not physically attached to another dwelling. It has its own private entrance and ground-level outdoor space for the occupants. A freestanding dwelling can still meet this definition even when it forms part of a larger townhouse or multi-unit development; 'detached' describes the physical building, not necessarily the title arrangement.
