Legal Meaning

The best estimate of the surface of the ground determined pursuant to Surveyor- General Guideline No. 3 – Estate Development Plans and Datum Ground Level Surveys.

Plain English

Datum ground level is the planning reference surface used to measure building height and determine whether a floor is a lower or upper floor. It is not automatically the same as finished landscaping after excavation or filling. The approved survey and planning method should be used rather than estimating from the current garden surface.
