Means a line drawn parallel to any front boundary along the front face of a building or through the point on a building closest to the front boundary. A terrace, landing, porch, balcony, deck, or verandah that is more than 1.5 metres above finished ground level or is covered by a roof is deemed to be part of the building. A fence, courtyard wall or retaining wall is not deemed to be part of the building for the purpose of setting the building line.
An imaginary line that shows the front position of a building on a block. It is measured from the front boundary to the closest part of the building. The building line helps determine areas of the block, such as the front zone. A roofed porch, verandah, terrace, landing, balcony or deck—or one more than 1.5 metres above finished ground—may move the building line forward because it is treated as part of the building for this purpose. Fences and retaining walls do not set the building line.
