Stormwater detention means temporarily storing rainwater runoff on a property and releasing it slowly after a storm, rather than allowing the water to flow away all at once. This helps reduce the amount and speed of stormwater leaving the property.
Stormwater detention means the temporary storage and controlled release of stormwater runoff generated on a site. The site must capture runoff from the entire site and provide a minimum storage capacity of 1 kilolitre per 100 square metres of impervious area. The detained stormwater must be released over a period of 6 hours after the storm event. Up to 50% of the storage volume of rainwater tanks used for on-site stormwater reuse may be counted toward the required detention storage capacity.
