Side boundary means a block boundary extending from a street frontage along a single bearing. A boundary is not a side boundary if it meets the definition of front boundary.
A side boundary generally runs away from the street frontage along a single direction, but a boundary that also meets the definition of a front boundary is treated as a front boundary instead. This is especially important on corner blocks, where the boundary beside the house may face a road and therefore be a front boundary for planning purposes. The deposited plan and road or reserve frontages should be checked before applying side-setback rules.
