Articulation is the variation in the form and alignment of a building through the projection, recession, or expression of walls, roofs, openings, and architectural elements to provide visual interest, reduce perceived bulk, and improve the appearance of the building.

Articulation is the use of design features, such as setbacks, balconies, windows, awnings, and changes in the roof, to make a building look visually pleasing and less bulky.
